After a Long Hiatus
So, I realized today that it had been over two years since I had blogged. It made me a little sad because, although I have taken a lot of pictures this last few years, I haven’t done any blogging about it to share with our friends and family. A lot has happened in the past two years so I’ll quickly update.
Tim is still working for Reno Fire Department. He is now a Battalion Chief, which was a nice promotion for him, but our city is in a bit of turmoil right now so it’s not an easy time and we’ve seen a lot of layoffs, etc. happen. He has also changed positions in the Air Guard after 25+ years and is now in Emergency Management Services.
Alyssa moved home from working at Hume Lake Christian Camps for a few months and then decided she wanted to move to Southern California to be closer to her boyfriend, Chad. She has been attending Massage Therapy school and graduates this weekend! Yay!!!! She is currently working at a spa at the front desk and is hoping when her license comes through to work as a massage therapist there. I, personally, can’t wait to benefit from her education.
Jenna spent the last two years at our local community college majoring in education. She recently has been been accepted into the university here and is changing her major to speech pathology....kind of taking after me, just a little. She’s working at a local clothes retailer and gets some nice discounts.
Sammy is finishing up her senior year of high school and will be graduating and going on to cosmetology school in the fall. She also is working at a clothes retailer and babysits all the time!!!
Tara is currently finishing up 3rd grade at our local elementary school and is in the Gifted and Talented program there. She is also very involved in a local competitive cheerleading team.
I am working part time/per diem as a speech pathologist at a local nursing home with a sub acute rehab wing. I really love it and it is super flexible to fit in my schedule.
So here are a few pictures to show you some of our activities since we have been MIA. I did get a new computer last year and none of my older pictures are on it (they are backed up on an external hard drive) so most of these pictures are less than a year old......
We took a trip to San Francisco. Tim’s grandmother’s house of about 65 years was being sold and we wanted to visit her and see the house one last time. This picture is from the slide behind her house.
This is the first day of school this year. Sammy takes Tara to school almost every day because I work early in the morning so she thought she would take pictures since I couldn’t be there.
Duncan had his 3rd birthday, complete with a dog food birthday cake.
Tim was again one of the fire chiefs at the Reno Air Races. I got to take a tour of all of the pylon areas and see the planes flying around from a different angle!
Tara had her 9th birthday and a party with her friends from school.
Alyssa, Jenna and Sammy all ran in Race for the Cure
We went to UNR’s homecoming game with my brother and his family and some other friends from college.
We drew pictures on our pantry chalkboard door.
We had lots of pizza parties so our pizza oven was put into good use.
Had Thanksgiving at my mom’s house with the fam....complete with games.
Had Christmas Eve dinner at the casino where my mom’s husband is the General Manager because we all had to work earlier in the day. It was really nice and he even made up a special menu for us!
We went to LOTS of cheerleading competitions.
We took a family trip to Maui....super fun!
We had lots of family gatherings.
Watched some incredible sunsets!
And then, catching up to yesterday, Sammy had her 18th birthday. That’s a lot of candles!

Mellow Saturday
Today was spent getting things ready for Tim's homecoming tomorrow. This week I have really missed him being here a lot. That always happens the second week he is gone and even more so this time because the first week we were so busy on vacation.
Sammy and Jenna had to get up early this morning to go to the JROTC Cadet Olympics. Before you might think that they were actually competing in something physical, never fear, they were working the snack bar and Jenna had to be there since she is Deputy Brigade Commander (kind of like assistant to the commander) for all of our Northern Nevada schools.

This isn't actually from Starbucks...she had coffee from home before she left
Jenna was sooo excited to wear this hat! I think all the Brigade Commander-types had to wear them
Sammy thought she looked really cool in the hat!
Duncan went back to sleep on the couch after the girls left
Tara never even woke up
After some coffee for me, I watered my plants. I typically have a "black" thumb and can't keep anything alive, but for some reason this begonia is thriving and blooming again after winter. I love the colors of the flowers.
My begonia....a miracle it is alive!
The rest of the day has just been getting a few things done...laundry, picking up, etc. I am moving kind of slowly today because I am so tired so it hasn't been nearly as productive as I would have hoped.
Even Duncan was just hanging out
Tara had me bring this dollhouse up from the basement. This has gone through all four girls and held up well.
Tonight I think we will watch Madagascar 2. We got it from Netflix this week and I want to send it back by Monday.
I really hope I have more energy tomorrow when Tim comes home. We have church in the morning and I am singing so I have to be there early and Tara has a birthday party to go to tomorrow afternoon. At some point I will have to pick Tim up, but because it's the military and it's not really a "scheduled" flight, I'm not sure what time that will be.
New Background
I changed the background of my blog today. The other one seemed like it was cute, but it was too busy for me. I'd thought that for a while, but hadn't taken the time to change it. Maybe it's a sign of me getting old, but it made my eyes tired. I think I like this one better. Of course, I may change it to something else tomorrow. I am a little fickle that way.
