November 4, 2006...Thoughts

So I have just decided to plan as I can and flex from there. (I hate flexing!) You have to have read my previous post to understand why I wrote this.

Yesterday was another "adventure" in our family. We got up and the older two girls had school so I dropped them off there. Then I went to go get the oil changed in our car at our local Walmart. Unfortunately, they didn't have the filter to change our oil there so after wandering around for about 30 minutes and then going back to the Auto Department, they informed me of this. He said he paged me, but I didn't hear him. So, I need to put that back on the list of things to do for next week. Aaaagh!!!

After that, I went home and got ready for the day while Sammy started school. I had to pick up Alyssa at 10:30am from school (this is the week her class had "enrichment" time and so I pick her up a half hour later than usual). We went home and I checked the week's schoolwork to make sure it was done and found that my email address on my yahoogroups was "bouncing" so I had to fix that. It has bounced three times this week and I am getting very tired of it. I have had to read all the email at the website and that is very time consuming.

We had lunch and did some more laundry...we always seem to be doing laundry...did more school and then I took Alyssa to meet some friends to go "slack-lining" with some friends. They just tie the rope between some trees in our local park and do it so they don't fall very far (maybe 2-3 feet). We picked up Jenna from school and went to the bank and grocery store. Tim needed more money to pay the workers on our house and I had to deposit a bunch of checks for the girls from work and babysitting. Of course, after I had left the bank, I went to Walmart (because our local grocery store doesn't take credit cards and I realized I had run out of checks and hadn't grabbed a new book) and received a call from the bank that she hadn't given me enough money so back to the bank we went. Then we dropped off money and batteries to Tim at the house. He was putting in our new door knobs/locks and needed batteries for the electronic combination lock on the garage. It was somewhat muddy at the house because it had rained some during the day so everyone got mud all over their shoes (except Tara because we carried her) and we had to take them off to drive home. Fortunately, I keep extra tennis shoes in my car so when I have to bring stuff to the house and have nice shoes on I can switch them before I walk in the dirt. Of course, the door lock was a fascination for everyone so everyone was playing with it to make sure they knew the code and could work it.

After that we went home and had chili dogs for dinner with leftover chili from the night of the Harvest Party. We all sat down to watch something on TV and I started to fall asleep so I went to bed. Tim couldn't sleep as his neck was really hurting and the girls watched a movie for a little while. I don't think Tim came to bed until really late (I didn't look at the clock) and he got up early this morning to work on the house. They are supposed to be putting in some drains today and trying to get the base ready so they can lay our pavers next week. Woo Hoo!!!!

Today I really need to get Jenna and Sammy's room cleaned out. I did Alyssa and Tara's last week and am trying to do the whole house so we are ready to just pack stuff up when it is time to move. I also have to run to the store to get lye for a chemistry experiment of Alyssa's...she couldn't do the experiment last week because she didn't have lye and red cabbage and I got cabbage for her yesterday, but couldn't find lye. I will have to go to another store today for that.

Alyssa and Tara just came into the bedroom with their red "princess" dresses on them and Tara's Bitty Baby doll.

Plan for today:

1.Go to store to get stuff for experiment
2.Catch up on the week's laundry
3.Go through stuff in Jenna and Sammy's room
4.Do "big cleaning" (or "Weekly Home Blessing" as Flylady puts it) with girls
5.Leftovers for dinner
6.Plan closet organizers so we can pick up what we need next week and Tim can install them before we move in

A "Normal" Day in the Life....Nov. 1, 2006

Lately, I wake up every day and try to pray and plan. In my planning I try to "schedule" my day...not down to the minute scheduling, but just a general schedule so I can see how much time I have to do things. Today I was doing that and realized that this week has not at all been normal and I have had appointments or odd things every day. We had two hair appointments earlier in the week (one for all the girls and yesterday I went by myself) and today I have a doctor's appointment...just a check up. Also, today my girls had a delayed start for school because of testing that they did not have to do so they didn't go in until 10:30am. Besides my DH wanting me to come and look at things, call about things or choose things for the new house it seems other "spontaneous" things come up every day. It is driving me CRAZY! I just want a normal day where nothing surprising comes up and I can get done what I have planned. Or maybe, God wants to teach me something....flexibility...spontanaeity? I have already become very flexible in my life because of my dh's job (captain in the fire department), children and especially this house building, but what else do I need to be flexible about? I just want some sense of "routine" and "normalcy". Aaaaagh!!! Oh well...maybe it wouldn't be so fun if things were too routine. Okay, I am rambling.

So here's the plan for the day (okay, it's already noon, but for the rest of the day)...I have to leave here any minute to go to the doctor, but on the way I need to stop at Costco and get gas (it's the cheapest right now) and tortilla chips for the workers at the house, besides a few other things. After I get home and finish going over my 3rd dd's homework, I have to pick up the oldest 2 dds from drill team practice for ROTC, come home and fix dinner and have the 2nd 2 dds ready to babysit for a bible study by 6pm. Usually we have AWANA tonight, but they are having a special "thing" at the church and so my girls were asked to babysit for a bible study because the people's kids are usually at AWANAs. I think we will have salmon with raspberry chipotle sauce for dinner along with some artichokes I need to use and a salad. After we clean up the kitchen, I want to try and make a menu and grocery list for next week...I usually shop on Friday, but have absolutely no time on Thursday to do anything and I have no desire to wander around the grocery store without a grocery list. We probably would end up with a bunch of Snickers Bars to eat all week and nothing else. If I can get the menu done quickly, then I need to work some more on my bible study for tomorrow.

Aaaaah....my bible study....I had not joined a bible study for a while because of needing to try and be home to make sure my dds finish schoolwork, but I decided this year to join anyway and the two that are home can do homework while I have the youngest with me at childcare. It has worked out pretty well, except that my Thursdays are incredibly busy with no room for breathing practically. We are studying I & II Samuel and I love it! What I really love is that it is a "Precepts-type" study in that you mark it all up and don't answer specific questions, but get out of it what God wants you to and I really enjoy that type of study. I also love studying the Old Testament. I mean, I love the New Testament too, but sometimes I feel like we concentrate so much on the New Testament and forget to look at the Old Testament as showing us God's character and His holiness.

House Pictures

This is a picture of our concrete floors. I love the way they look so warm, and yet, they are concrete.

This is my house from the street. This was taken quite a few months ago, but it gives you an idea.

My Four Beautiful Blessings

I am excited to start a new blog and, hopefully, be able to do more with it than I have been able to on my other blog. I am a mom of four beautiful daughters and homeschool three of them...one part time and two full time. My other daughter is in public school full time and she loves it. My part time daughter has one high school class...ROTC...and does the rest at home.

Currently, we are building a house in the same area we live right now and are getting close to being finished.

I have a lot of stress right now, but I absolutely LOVE my life! I can't wait until it calms down a bit from building, etc., though.

My first Blogger post 11/1/06

Okay, I am going to try this "blog" thing on blogger. I previously used my yahoo account, but it didn't do enough for me and thanks to the ladies on my SHS loop, I have decided to give this a whirl.
